Family Portraits during the Holidays : Rochester NY

Yes, we're still on a bit of a Christmas kick...we just can't get over how much fun we had in 2013. Here's another great set of images from a one of our recent holiday sessions. Isn't it lovely when three generations gather? The fun and the chaos... it's wonderful. This was a great group, and we captured all 14 of them in one frame. While a more formal look was in order here, we still had some fun outside, jumping around in the snow. Luckily, this family was all from the Rochester area, so getting them together didn't mean plane tickets and taxis. We were even able to include the dog! Looking back now, we're pretty sure that the youngest, Pete, stole the show, as most 2 year old's do. Enjoy!

Playful Kid Photos : Rochester NY Family Portrait

Two cousins - Savannah and Maddox, currently living in different states. With the help of their awesome parents, they try to get together every month for a play date. This time I got to be there to capture it. Maddox is just learning to walk, and Savannah is a perfectly happy little girl at 6 months old. We played with blocks, the ball pit, read stories on the bed and just hung out around the house. Georgia the dog, was there to keep a watchful eye on us the whole time. It was a fun wintery day! Here is a little peek into our adventures together.family with dogboy with momcousins in ball pit boy walking

Rochester ny portrait session: Family Pictures

When she asked me if we had time for a portrait session, I knew. Something in the way she worded things gave her away. So when she pulled her "prop" out of the closet, the "I knew it!" could have been heard down the street. Now that I finally have her permission to share this news with my world, I'm so excited to share the photographs she used to tell her family the big announcement. My long time BFF, (am I still young enough to use that term?) is expecting a new addition to their already beautiful family. What more is there to say really? I'm thrilled, excited and even nervous for them as they write the next chapter in their story.

Writing this, and seeing the joy on their faces in these pictures brings tears to my eyes. I can't wait to snuggle him or her, and watch them grow. Mike, Sarah and Chris - I love you always, and one more time congratulations!

Holiday Mini Portrait Session Fairport NY

formal and informal

Jack, Evan, Emma Kate and Owen are so much fun to work with. Last year, we photographed a full session with them, and so this year we just needed a couple images for the Christmas card. Owen was still his funny little self and showed me his favorite stuffed animal (a turkey). With a mini session, we had just enough time to get a few shots of all the kids, and then each of them individually. Here's a few favorites –

Family Portraits at the Fairport Fire Station

For a family full of volunteer fire fighters converging in Fairport for the holidays, what better place for a portrait session than the Fire Station? Fairport is home to a beautifully well kept antique fire truck, and we were able to pull some strings to use it as the backdrop for this amazing family. And we had so much fun doing it! Andrea arranged this whole session from Georgia, and it was great to see it all come together.big family with fire truck two little girls

We had so much fun with this group! What a great family, a great location and a fun day. Special thanks also to Victoria from Mary Kay who did the ladies' makeup.

This was another Christmas gift session! Nikki's boyfriend is in the service and she thought a portrait of her would be the perfect gift for Christmas this year.  The final product had to be something small that he could take with him, so we ended up making an accordion mini book for him. They are both outdoorsy, enjoying hunting and hiking. (Hard to picture Nikki with a gun!) We photographed Nikki at Corbett's Glen Park in the late fall. It was definitely chilly, but we braved the cold, and had a great time!

Don't you just love that red coat?

Extended Family Christmas Photos : Waterloo, NY

In my opinion, the best part of the holidays is getting the family together! It was so great to get together with this family in particular, as they are from my hometown. While the parents still live there, their kids have both moved to other states and now have their own kids. Seidon and Camron are two handsome cousins both full of personality. Camron is a very serious child, while Seidon is pretty wild. We had fun indoors and out making these Christmas memories. Enjoy :) -Lori

Just because there is snow on the ground, doesn't mean you have to cry. Call us for your unique winter portraits today!

One year old winter family portraits: rochester ny

This session was the last of her first year series. We danced along to Jack Johnson, read a story, and did a little snowboarding. Yes, you read that right, snowboarding. When she was born, her Daddy wanted a few newborn photos to include his snowboard. So a year later, when we found ourselves with actual snow on the ground - we got the board out again! Getting to capture her growth throughout her first year has been an honor. Each time we visited, we saw her personality emerge a little bit more. And wow, her smiles light up the room. So much fun to be had - we would have played all day... but we need nap time sometimes too.  :)

Meet the Family

Amy & Steve | Married 2 1/2 years | Love the classic dinner and movie on a Saturday night. Pretty rare these days though... Katie | 1 year | Loves  feeding Winnie puffs.  Wow...this is a hard one because there is so much she likes to do and it changes all the time! Favorite way to celebrate life together: Spending time with our friends and family. We especially love taking Winnie and Katie on hikes. What makes a good portrait: Photos that are candid and natural. Anything else: We look forward to Lori and Erin capturing many more beautiful photos of our family in years to come.

Cookies, cookbooks and wedding albums: Rochester NY wedding photography

I have this Betty Crocker cookbook that my grandma gave me. When she gave it to me I was in college. Back then, the extent of my cooking skills included cereal, easy mac, ramen noodles and the occasional trip to Boston Market with my roommate. I laughed, unsure of why she thought I'd ever need it. On certain occasions, I even tried giving it back to her – unsuccessfully of course. I also have some handwritten cookie recipes. I have sampled many cut out cookies, and my favorite has always come from a 3x5 handwritten index card that my mother gave me. Years ago, I copied that card into my own book of recipes. Somewhere along the line, it was handed down to her.

Yesterday, with my hands full of cookie dough and that cookbook open in front of me,  I realized how much that cookbook and 3x5 index card now meant to me. Leave it to me to find symbolism in a cookbook, right?

In a nutshell, I've been given a history to keep. That cut out cookie recipe contains a lot of great memories of my childhood. If that 3x5 card hadn't been written for her, I'd probably never have those memories of baking with my mom. Someday, I hope it contains memories for my own kids to cherish.

So if a recipe can hold so much meaning, imagine what my wedding album means to me. It's literally my family history. The story told within the pages is beautiful. Honestly, no disc of images can replace that album. It's tangible, photographic proof of my family's origins.

Back in the film days, my parents had to put their wedding photographs into an album, or they wouldn't have seen them at all. There were no iPads to view those images on. I'm glad for that because if they hadn't taken the time to have an album made, I wouldn't get to see that history. Someday, I'll be the keeper of those photographs, much like the handed down recipes. 50 years from now, I want my children to be the keeper of my albums and books – not useless unreadable discs or out dated thumb drives.

Trust me, we get that you want all of the digital files. We both did too. Post them all over Facebook, tweet them, load them to your tablet, that's all fine with us. But if you're in the market for wedding photography, we hope you'll consider an album or book.

A wedding album might be something you don't think you need right now. And yeah, that's a little bit true  –  you don't need it right now. Right now, you're a newlywed, or soon-to-be newlywed. Those memories are still so fresh in your mind, you can recall the tiniest details of the day. But when your kids ask about your wedding day, what will you show them? What will you hand down to them from your family's story? We want you to have an actual book of your history, to give your children, who in turn, may give it to their children also.

While you're at it, give them an old Betty Crocker cook book too. Someday, they'll thank you.

The cookbook in question, and my disastrous kitchen on cookie making day.

Tom and Alicia are awesome parents. Seriously, I should have been taking notes during this session. With two young kids, they were both calm and patient through it all. Stella came out of her shell and was this energetic, spunky little girl (as compared to the quiet, shy girl I see in church). And Liam, well he is just a happy little boy that was along for the ride. I loved spending time with these guys, as its always a fun adventure. From hide and seek to looking at albums, reading and petting the cat, and even a little jumping in our Christmas outfits, it was real. And it was fun!
