Newborn Pictures in Rochester NY

Less than a week old, and he's already growing too fast. We've been looking forward to his birth for awhile now. Back in the fall, we photographed their announcement, - so finally he's here!  And now that he is, we all want to slow down time and keep him this small forever. I went to photograph his first session of his first year plan, and probably spent a bit more time snuggling him than I meant to. But I couldn't help it, he's just so cute and cuddly! I'm so happy for his mommy, daddy and big brother, and am excited to watch him grow up. Hopefully though, not too fast.

the great babymoon adventure of 2014 : sanibel, florida

2014-05-08_0002.jpg

Halfway there. We're halfway to meeting our sweet little baby. About two months ago, I realized we hadn't planned our babymoon. If you're unsure what that term means, I relate it to a "last chance" vacation. As much fun as being a family of 3 plus dog will be, taking one last trip alone with my husband was important to me. So while it was still snowing, blowing and generally depressing outside - we made a plan to visit Sanibel Island in Florida.

And it couldn't have been more perfectly timed - still chilly here, but not overwhelmingly hot in Florida. Also, it so happens to be just before our busy summer wedding season begins.

One of my absolute favorite moments happened on our second day there. Wandering out into the Gulf waters, we noticed some fins surfacing...and coming closer to shore. There were 5 or 6 dolphins just off shore feeding, not paying attention to our presence. As we stood still, they came closer, until they were about 10 feet away from us! What a rare moment to get to experience!

We biked the island, read books in the sand, went shelling and ate like it was our job. The island also has a great wildlife refuge, filled with rare birds, alligators and other incredible plants and animals.

Also, while we were there, we took the opportunity to make our second announcement of my pregnancy, ready? It's a...

To our moms : Happy Mother's Day

2014-05-08_0010.jpg

From day one, no - hour one, our mom's have always been there for us. With everything from clean clothes and warm food to unconditional love and support. Today is the day we celebrate them - so here's some special notes from us to them. There are not enough words of thanks that I could give my mom for all of that. And as I enter the world of parenthood myself, I'm proud to have her beside me, because I have a feeling I'll need her more than ever! Everything I know about being a mom comes from her and I look forward to my little one calling her "Grandma." I love you Momma - Happy Mother's Day! ~ Erin

My Momma, and Gram... enjoying life :)

My mom is better than your mom, na-na-na-na-na-na. No really, she is awesome. She is the most selfless person I know and an incredible role model. When I grow up, I want to be just like my mom. :) Mom, thank you for all you have given me and all that you are. I love you! -Lori

Rochester NY newborn sessions at home

She's tiny, cute and perfect. She's also the newest adventure in Natalie and Dan's life. What an honor and joy it was to get to meet her last week, in her first few days at home. Thanks to Rochester's weather, in her short time here so far she's already seen 3 different seasons...spring, summer and winter. She's also been on a few hikes and has been showered with love from friends and family alike. It's always exciting for us when we get the opportunity to meet a new addition to the family of one of our wedding couples. We love reconnecting with you, and capturing that next stage in your family's history. For us, it doesn't get much better than that.

Welcome to the world little one! Your mom and dad are so happy you're here, and we can't wait to watch you grow into a beautiful, sweet little girl!

Big, Life Changing, Exciting News! : rochester ny family photographer

015_20140315_3656-lr.jpg

Sharing our days with you and your families is so special to us. We love capturing everything from the wedding to those newborn tiny little feet, and watching them grow. We enjoy being a part of your lives, while we continue to live our own. But there's nothing like watching a family grow, especially if it's your own!

So without further ado, I'm excited to share some great news about my own little family. We've been waiting ever so impatiently to tell the world! Check it out in the video below!

Yes, we are soon to be welcoming two tiny new feet into the family!  So for now, I'm going to put aside my wine, and enjoy a little extra ice cream instead. Thank you to our family and friends who have supported us this far, and will continue to do so as we enter this amazing, yet totally sleep deprived, new chapter of our lives! We can't wait for you to meet him or her in September!

With Love, Erin, Matt and Baby Perrotta

Rochester ny portrait session: Family Pictures

When she asked me if we had time for a portrait session, I knew. Something in the way she worded things gave her away. So when she pulled her "prop" out of the closet, the "I knew it!" could have been heard down the street. Now that I finally have her permission to share this news with my world, I'm so excited to share the photographs she used to tell her family the big announcement. My long time BFF, (am I still young enough to use that term?) is expecting a new addition to their already beautiful family. What more is there to say really? I'm thrilled, excited and even nervous for them as they write the next chapter in their story.

Writing this, and seeing the joy on their faces in these pictures brings tears to my eyes. I can't wait to snuggle him or her, and watch them grow. Mike, Sarah and Chris - I love you always, and one more time congratulations!

One year old winter family portraits: rochester ny

This session was the last of her first year series. We danced along to Jack Johnson, read a story, and did a little snowboarding. Yes, you read that right, snowboarding. When she was born, her Daddy wanted a few newborn photos to include his snowboard. So a year later, when we found ourselves with actual snow on the ground - we got the board out again! Getting to capture her growth throughout her first year has been an honor. Each time we visited, we saw her personality emerge a little bit more. And wow, her smiles light up the room. So much fun to be had - we would have played all day... but we need nap time sometimes too.  :)

Meet the Family

Amy & Steve | Married 2 1/2 years | Love the classic dinner and movie on a Saturday night. Pretty rare these days though... Katie | 1 year | Loves  feeding Winnie puffs.  Wow...this is a hard one because there is so much she likes to do and it changes all the time! Favorite way to celebrate life together: Spending time with our friends and family. We especially love taking Winnie and Katie on hikes. What makes a good portrait: Photos that are candid and natural. Anything else: We look forward to Lori and Erin capturing many more beautiful photos of our family in years to come.

Cookies, cookbooks and wedding albums: Rochester NY wedding photography

I have this Betty Crocker cookbook that my grandma gave me. When she gave it to me I was in college. Back then, the extent of my cooking skills included cereal, easy mac, ramen noodles and the occasional trip to Boston Market with my roommate. I laughed, unsure of why she thought I'd ever need it. On certain occasions, I even tried giving it back to her – unsuccessfully of course. I also have some handwritten cookie recipes. I have sampled many cut out cookies, and my favorite has always come from a 3x5 handwritten index card that my mother gave me. Years ago, I copied that card into my own book of recipes. Somewhere along the line, it was handed down to her.

Yesterday, with my hands full of cookie dough and that cookbook open in front of me,  I realized how much that cookbook and 3x5 index card now meant to me. Leave it to me to find symbolism in a cookbook, right?

In a nutshell, I've been given a history to keep. That cut out cookie recipe contains a lot of great memories of my childhood. If that 3x5 card hadn't been written for her, I'd probably never have those memories of baking with my mom. Someday, I hope it contains memories for my own kids to cherish.

So if a recipe can hold so much meaning, imagine what my wedding album means to me. It's literally my family history. The story told within the pages is beautiful. Honestly, no disc of images can replace that album. It's tangible, photographic proof of my family's origins.

Back in the film days, my parents had to put their wedding photographs into an album, or they wouldn't have seen them at all. There were no iPads to view those images on. I'm glad for that because if they hadn't taken the time to have an album made, I wouldn't get to see that history. Someday, I'll be the keeper of those photographs, much like the handed down recipes. 50 years from now, I want my children to be the keeper of my albums and books – not useless unreadable discs or out dated thumb drives.

Trust me, we get that you want all of the digital files. We both did too. Post them all over Facebook, tweet them, load them to your tablet, that's all fine with us. But if you're in the market for wedding photography, we hope you'll consider an album or book.

A wedding album might be something you don't think you need right now. And yeah, that's a little bit true  –  you don't need it right now. Right now, you're a newlywed, or soon-to-be newlywed. Those memories are still so fresh in your mind, you can recall the tiniest details of the day. But when your kids ask about your wedding day, what will you show them? What will you hand down to them from your family's story? We want you to have an actual book of your history, to give your children, who in turn, may give it to their children also.

While you're at it, give them an old Betty Crocker cook book too. Someday, they'll thank you.

The cookbook in question, and my disastrous kitchen on cookie making day.

erin's favorite things: the fall edition

One minute I'm walking Allie in 90 degree weather, the next... I have a hoodie on and noticing a little crispness in the air. My Vera Bradley flip flops are still on my feet, but now they're showing their wear from daily usage. Sadly, I'm coming to the realization that summer is winding down. This does not, I repeat, this does NOT mean I've decided to wear shoes instead of flip flops. But it does mean I get to enjoy some of my absolute favorite foods and activities as fall approaches.

For example - like millions of others, Starbucks has me absolutely hooked on their Pumpkin Spice Latte or "PSL" for the devoted.  To be clear, I don't visit Starbucks on a daily basis - but when the PSL comes around every year, I'm like a mouse to cheese. Ohhhhh, I think I need one right now in fact...

PSL

Most of my favorite fall activities revolve around the foods of fall. So after we pick up my pumpkin spice latte, we head over to Schutt's Apple Farm for some cider and donuts - er, fried cakes (sorry dear). Every year we take a morning to pick up some apples, cider and a dozen of their delicious glazed donuts. And yes, before we even leave the parking lot, there's only 10 left. I'd take a photo of the donuts... but I think we already ate them all...

Schutts1 Schutts2

As the season progresses, we'll head back for more cider and donuts, as well as pick out our pumpkins and mums for some great fall decor. We'll enjoy as much of the local flavors as we possibly can before the season changes once again.  As sad as it makes me to see the leaves start falling, I truly enjoy all of the bounty that comes along with it.

Oh, and did I mention the baked goods? I sort of went on a "Martha Stewart"/Pinterest kick this weekend and baked tiny little apple pies, and some delectable pumpkin muffins. Baked-Goods

Apple picking with the family also makes for a great family portrait session... interested? I'm happy to join you - especially if there's a promise of apple cider involved!

Rochester, NY family portraits with Kids

The title really says it all - they're fun to be around, loving, and pretty darn adorable... and that is just the kids. Oh what the hey, Mom and Dad aren't bad either. I don't get to see these guys that often, but I love them all to pieces. While they were in town for a family birthday party, we had the chance to get their yearly family portrait in. I love doing this every year for them, because I get to document their family as they grow together. I love it, and them, so much. Thank you to my family, for being so special, and for being such a huge part of why I do what I do. Enjoy! ~ Erin

Ever wonder how long it might take to get the image on the right? About 15 laps around the tree by a running two year old! He loved it, and so do I!
